Mud, sand, snow, rocks, pain, grit, and glory. That’s cyclocross, and there’s no other type of racing like it on Earth. It’s a full-gas effort that demands seared lungs, aching legs, and absolute focus from the rider, as well as maximum power transfer, precise steering, and an impeccably tuned ride quality from the bike. The Fx is a multi-time winner of the rainbow jersey at the Cyclocross World Championships and, well, really, what else do you need to know?

Buy it if:

You want the lightest, fastest, and best-handling cyclocross bike around, and one that comes with a World Championship-winning pedigree.

Don’t buy it if:

You prefer Shimano components—If so, check out the Fx | Advanced+ | GRX 800 model. Or, perhaps you want a bike designed for mixed surface riding, but not necessarily for the cyclocross race course? Then check out both the Breed and Broam series.

Highlights:

  • Multi-time World Championship winner
  • Lightweight, impeccable handling, and massive power transfer efficiency
  • Internal cable routing for clean aesthetics and protection against the elements

Upgrades over Fx | Advanced+ | GRX 800:

  • SRAM Force Cx1 drivetrain
  • Zipp handlebar, stem, and seatpost
  • Zipp 30 Course wheels

The Fx is a purebred race machine, created specifically for the rigors of the cyclocross racecourse. Its no-frills, purpose-built design was developed for one thing: speed. Incredibly lightweight, stiff in all the right places, and unbelievably agile, the Fx will elevate every racer’s performance. And that’s not an unsubstantiated claim by any means—the Fx is a two-time winner of the cyclocross world championship in the ultra-competitive Elite Men’s division. So if it delivered the very best racer in the world to back-to-back rainbow jerseys, just think what it can do for you. The top step of the podium awaits. Go and take it.

The world championship-winning Fx frame kit is available in three unique options, all featuring the same svelte silhouette and tube profiles, but with different carbon layups. This gives racers the freedom to choose the best bike for their racecourse and riding style. For the most high-performance cyclocross bike you can get your hands on, we offer the Fx FRD | Ultimate as a frame kit only—this lets you build your dream race bike with your favorite components. It features our very best, lightest, and stiffest carbon fiber variant, UHC (“Ultra Hybrid Carbon”) Ultimate, in both the frame and fork. We also offer a complete Fx bike in our Advanced series, appropriately named the Fx | Advanced | GRX 600—it features our most popular UHC Advanced carbon fiber in both the frame and fork. What you’re looking at here is one of two bikes in the the Fx | Advanced+ series: This one features SRAM’s groundbreaking Force Cx1 groupset, while we also have a version built with Shimano’s newest GRX 800 group. What makes the Fx | Advanced+ unique is that it features our UHC Advanced carbon in the frame, and UHC Ultimate carbon in the fork. This means that the total frame kit is a bit lighter, but significantly less expensive, than the Fx FRD version, all without sacrificing incredible handling and solid power transfer.

Also, don’t forget that in addition to our UHC carbon fiber variants, all models in the Fx series feature TeXtreme carbon fiber, as well. Outside the bike industry, TeXtreme is utilized in the aerospace industry and on Formula One race cars to both add strength to a structure, as well as reduce its weight relative to alternative composite options. Although it’s relatively expensive to produce and more time-consuming to work with, it’s a material we use in our highest-performing bikes because we’re committed to extracting every iota of performance out of all of our frame kits, and never cutting any corners. But just like how the finest food ingredients demand the skills of a chef to yield a truly exquisite meal, bicycle frame materials require engineering expertise to produce a truly great bicycle. The Fx series was developed by our engineering team with a combined 90 years of experience developing carbon fiber racing bicycles.

The heart and soul of the Fx series is its famed geometry. With aggressive head and seat angles and short chainstays, the Fx is the best-handling ‘cross bike in the world, having won two consecutive world championships in the Men’s Elite category. It also features a robust foundation with incredible bottom bracket stiffness. This means that every single watt from the rider’s legs will be put to good use, particularly when it comes to quick accelerations out of the corners. The Fx also features a large front triangle, thoughtfully developed to allow easy shouldering in run-ups or other off-the-bike situations. While many cyclocross bikes feature only one spot for placing a water bottle (with the idea being that a rider would only need one water bottle during a race), our engineers gave the Fx two water bottle mounting locations in the front triangle—one on the downtube and one on the seat tube, akin to standard bottle placement on road bikes—in order to provide the rider with plenty of hydration for longer training rides. The Fx comes with size 33c tires, but can accept up to 34mm measured tires (per ISO safety standards) for a bit of added versatility and options. Of course, when it comes to racing, we also recommend contacting your local federation or league to confirm their regulations when it comes to tire size limits for ’cross racing.

Component maker SRAM ushered in a new era in racing when it perfected the 1x (“one-by”) drivetrain for the ’cross racecourse. Sure, there were plenty of folks who were modifying their existing drivetrains to run a single chainring, but SRAM’s CX1 series of groupsets set a new standard in performance. SRAM’s Force-level CX1 shifters and derailleurs take centerstage on this particular Fx | Advanced+ model, with a SRAM Quarq Prime Carbon model crankset providing the pedaling foundation This bike even comes with two chainring size options—38- and 40-tooth variants—to give the rider some tunability and perfect his or her preferred gearing setup. SRAM hydraulic disc brakes provide the stopping power, with a 140mm rotor in the rear and a 160mm rotor up front for added deceleration prowess in sloppy conditions. Few brands are as steeped in cyclocross racing culture as wheel company Zipp. That’s why we made sure that this bike rolls on a set of Zipp 30 Course aluminum tubeless-ready wheels—they’re dependable, quick under acceleration, and will give great performance for many racing seasons. They’re shod in a set of Schwalbe X-One tubeless tires in size 33c, the standard size of most professional racers. A cockpit component selection from Zipp completes the build.

Whether you’re racing for a rainbow jersey or just aiming to beat your buddies at the weekend slug fest, you need a bike that will elevate the results of all of the blood, sweat, and tears you put into training. The Fx is that bike, and once you take it into the trenches with you, no other bike will compare.
