Chloe Dygert Owen Wins UCI Time Trial World Championship In Yorkshire
September 26, 2019
Chloe Dygert Owen has won the time trial world championship. Actually, no, that's not the most exciting way to convey this incredible news. Let's try it again. Chloe Dygert Owen obliterated her field of rivals en route to her first-ever time trial world championship in the Elite division on an epically treacherous, wet and rainy racecourse in Yorkshire, England. Yeah, that'll do.
Over the 30.4-kilometer course, Chloe posted a time of 42:11—a full one minute and thirty-two seconds ahead of her closest competitor. This was the largest margin of victory at the UCI Time Trial World Championships ever, in either the Women's or Men's divisions. Riders rolled out of the start house at one-minute intervals, and by her race's end, Chloe had passed eight of them, all of whom appeared to be doing stationary track stands, such was Chloe's incredible speed. Helicopter-mounted television cameras had difficulty keeping Chloe in their fields of view, despite her signature pink-colored shoes flashing brightly through the deluge. Television pundits found themselves at a loss for words. Fans braving the rainy conditions along the side of the road stood stunned with mouths agape. Yes, it truly was a superlative-worthy performance from an athlete on the best form of her life. Just a few weeks ago, Chloe won every single stage at the Colorado Classic.
Just a few weeks before winning the Time Trial World Championship, Chloe Dygert Owen won every single stage at the Colorado Classic—she's currently on the form of her life.
This was Chloe’s first-ever world championship victory in the Elite division of the time trial discipline. No stranger to victory at the UCI World Road Championships event, Chloe burst onto the world racing scene in 2015 when she won the rainbow jersey in both the Junior Time Trial and the Junior Road Race. Chloe is also a multi-time world champion on the track, having secured rainbow jerseys in the individual pursuit and team pursuit disciplines while riding the revolutionary Felt TA FRD track bike. She’s also the current world record holder in the individual pursuit.
Chloe's first set of rainbow jerseys, from her double-win in the Junior Road Race and Junior Time Trial back in 2015.
For time trials, Chloe rides her trusty Felt DA race bike, which has been one of the most dominant time trial bikes in the world for many years, having won countless accolades, race victories, and world records. Chloe’s incredible performance today demonstrated that the DA remains a world leader when it comes to aerodynamic efficiency, handling prowess, and pure speed.
This week’s UCI Road World Championships event festivities are far from over. Chloe Dygert Owen will be lining up at the start of the Elite Women’s road race on Saturday, September 28. Chloe was already won of the pre-race favorites after her exploits at the recent Colorado Classic stage race where she won every single stage. Her performance in the time trial only confirms that she’ll be the main rider to watch on the roads of Yorkshire. From all of us at Felt Bicycles, we say, congratulations, Chloe!
