Inside Felt: Meet Bill Duehring, President Of Felt Bicycles
September 04, 2015
Meet Bill Duehring. If you’re new to the bike industry his name may not ring a bell. But, if you’re an industry veteran, you'd know him as the product manager who created the Jamis MTB brand in the early days of mountain bikes for owner Ron Jamis. Or you may be familiar with his exploits as the Senior Product Manager & Vice President of Product Development turned COO of the original GT Bicycles, and the person who created the iconic triple triangle frame design. But these days around the Felt office, he’s known as the man who constantly strives for the highest quality products and doesn’t believe in the word “can’t,” as well as the president of Felt Bicycles.
What drove you to mold Felt Bicycles into an International brand?
Our team at Felt Bicycles has always had a drive to build great bikes, and to do things the right way. From hiring the best engineers to selecting cutting-edge materials to investing in technology, we want to deliver the best bicycles in the world, every time.
Can you explain what you do in 50 words or fewer?
My job is to lead by example, look into the future, and help guide Felt Bicycles and its staff toward those prospects, all while watching overhead and helping my staff make key decisions.
What’s your favorite company memory?
My favorite memory is when we won our first World Tour Team Time Trial with Team Slipstream at the 2008 Giro d’Italia. That win put Christian Vande Velde into the lead and it was thrilling to watch him put on the pink jersey. After the race, I rode back to the hotel in the team bus and everyone was beyond excited. What a great experience!
You’ve traveled a lot for work. Where is your favorite place to be on your down time?
My favorite place is to be at home in Southern California with my family.
What superpower would you have and why?
I would be the Flash so I could cut down my travel time to Asia or Europe.
Name three people who inspire you.
1) My father.
2) Richard Long, Co-Founder of GT Bicycles
3) Every athlete that I’ve had the pleasure watching in my career who digs deep to win.
What’s the one thing you can’t live without?
How can you pick just one thing? Sunshine, Mexican food, and my family.
If you weren’t the president of Felt Bicycles, what would you be doing?
Probably coaching a professional team somewhere.
How many bikes are in your garage?
Most of my kids are grown up and out of the house, so today I just have four in my garage.
Paved or Dirt?
Paved.
Coffee or Tea?
Coffee.
Favorite motto?
The harder you work, the luckier you get.
Advice for success?
Never, never, never give up.
